Crocodile Dundee

Cast: Paul Hogan, Linda Kozlowski, John Meillon, Ritchie Singer and Mark Blum

Director: Peter Faiman

Release Date: 1986

Running Time: 1hr 37 minutes

Genre: Adventure/Comedy

Rating: 15

Format: Amazon Prime UK

Synopsis:

American reporter Sue Charlton heads to Australia to meet an eccentric crocodile hunter, having lived in the outback his whole life, Sue offers him the chance to come back to New York City with her.

Whilst in Australia, New York reporter Sue Charlton (Kozlowski) stumbles across a story about a man who claims to be a crocodile hunter. Legend has it, a crocodile took off his leg, rolled him over and tried to kill him. Curious, Charlton heads to the outback to meet the man, however the man that she meets still has both legs and appears nothing more then a fine eccentric. Michael J "Crocodile Dundee" (Hogan) runs never never safari's with his friend Wally and for the most part just goes fishing, as he likes to call it. After a few weeks in the outback with him, Sue invites him back to New York, to see what he thinks, the adventure that unfolds around the two of them is simply heartwarming.

Feature film debut of Paul Hogan, who also wrote the story. Hogan found inspiration for the story after hearing about real life crocodile hunter Rod Ansell. Rod became famous in Australia in 1977, when his boat capsized during a solo hunting expedition, Rod spent two months stranded in the wilderness. Reportedly surviving on cow's blood and snakes. Despite the film being based on Ansell, he didn't have anything to do with the film. Hogan, himself didn't believe the film to be such a box office success, thinking that he was simply making a nice little comedy for Australia.

Paul Hogan delivers an outstanding performance as Michael J. Crocodile Dundee. Authentic and charming, he finds New York City quite the culture shock. Michael also finds himself falling for already engaged Sue Charlton. Linda Kozlowski brings a tremendous performance to the film as enthusiastic news reporter Sue Charlton, she too finds the outback quite the culture shock and gains a serious level for respect for Crocodile Dundee. The story is heartwarming, however there are a few surprises too.

Filmed in stunning Queensland and the Northern Territory of Australia, it really brings authenticity to the film. Charlton and Dundee spend several nights in the outback where they stumble across snakes, crocodiles and a few naughty kangaroo's. Whilst in New York, Dundee stumbles across Italian food, odd bathroom appliances and friendly limo drivers. Magnificently directed and written, this is a highly entertaining film that is certain to make you laugh and warm your heart.

The Exorcist

(I'm still learning and growing as a film critic, so apologies if a couple of my reviews aren't amazing)

Cast: Ellen Burstyn, Max Von Sydow, Kitty Winn, Barton Heyman and Linda Blair

Director: William Friedkin

Release Date: 1973

Running Time: 2hrs 2 minutes

Genre: Horror

Rating: 18

Format: Amazon Prime UK

Synopsis:

A young girl is possessed by a mysterious entity, her mother seeks the help from two priests in the hope they can save her before it's too late.

Twelve year old Regan (Blair) begins to show violent changes in her behaviour, numerous tests are done, even doctors are baffled by her behaviour and have no explanation as to why she is acting that way. As a last resort Regan's mother Chris (Burstyn) turns to exorcism. Father Damian Karras and Father Lancaster Merrin are selected by the church to perform the exorcism. In one last attempt to save Regan from what they believe to be a demonic spirit  Based on the book of the same name by William Peter Blatty. The seventies was a magnificent time for film. We were introduced to "Jaws" and the likes of "Texas Chainsaw Massacre", however a film that really took people by surprise was "The Exorcist", at the time one of the most terrifying horror films to ever be made, so much so it was even banned in some parts of the world.

The film is actually based on true events, supposedly the exorcism of a demon from a young boy, living in Maryland, USA. A priest was called in after reports that normal conventional medicine was not helping his anger, his foul language or his violent episodes. After spending two months with the boy, the priest claimed that the boy not only spoke Latin but that he saw his bed shake time to time throwing the lad around as he slept. How much of it is true is another matter, a journalist took a further look into the story when the film was released, still to this day very minimal evidence actually came forward about what really happened to the boy.

The Exorcist is a film you do have to be patient with, although this will be boring for some, it does explain a few of the characters backstories. Regan is seen playing with an Ouija board, is it thought to be this is where she becomes possessed? Just when you think the film isn't going to get exciting, all hell breaks loose. Regan's bed begins to shake up and down, throwing her about! Doctors believe it to be a symptom of a seizure. No real explanation as to why she is behaving in such a bizarre and violent manner.

At the time there had never been anything like it, the storyline is really quite magnificent. There was an awful lot of controversy over the film at the time which led to it being banned. Linda Blair's performance as Regan is absolutely superb. Incredible characterisation, performed in a very convincing manner. Her mother played by Ellen Burstyn, delivers a very genuine performance, worried sick, what has become of her daughter? Who is controlling her? The most terrifying thing about the story is what happens to the characters, the way in which Regan reacts, the way in which Linda Blair stairs into the camera is enough to scare the socks off anyone. The worse thing you could do with this film is go in expecting to see demons and ghosts, the fear comes from what you can't see.

Tremendously shot with horrifying special effects. The rating of "18" is accurate, certain scenes are truly terrifying, most of which wouldn't even be aloud to be shown in film now. It is however, what makes the film stand out from other horror movies. Director William Friedkin wasn't afraid to take risks when it came to directing the film. It really does put all horror movies to shame, without the use of a single jump scare. The fact that director William Friedkin hasn't had to rely on much of a soundtrack to build suspense in his film is very impressive. Absolutely terrifying! One of the best horror movies ever made, this is one film you don't want to miss this coming Halloween.

D3: The Mighty Ducks

Cast: Emilio Estevez, Jeffrey Nordling, Joshua Jackson, Shaun Weiss and Matt Doherty

Director: Robert Liberman

Release Date: 1996

Running Time: 1hr 44 minutes

Genre: Family/Sport

Rating: PG

Format: DVD

Synopsis:

Now all grown up The Mighty Ducks receive scholarships to a very posh prep school where they attempt to take on the narcissistic varsity team.

Coach Bombay announces to Charlie that he isn't going to be their coach anymore, that he is moving onto bigger and better things, much to the dismay of Charlie and the rest of the team. Adapting to their new prep school Eden Hall Academy where they become rivals with another hockey team.

Sequels aren't always a brilliant idea, in this case it was an excellent idea. Although not as good as the first, it's still highly entertaining. Sadly the first installment doesn't star Emilio Estevez, he does however have a small role as Coach Bombay. Charlie (Jackson) really starts to rebel in this film, rebelling against Coach O'Rian, rebelling against school and rebelling against hockey in general. Is it the future he really wants? His team mates however think differently causing a little bit of tension between them.

The storyline is a little bit cheesy, however this is to be expected it's the final in the franchise and it's Disney. You'd be silly to expect anything else. It's a family fun film. It does however have a fantastic ending to a truly brilliant story. We say goodbye to a character, as a group they grow and change, and some move on to different things. The cinematography is very good, the production design works well with the storyline, very much like the first film it was all shot in Minnesota, America. We even see a difference in the Ducks hockey gear, now known as warriors, much to their dismay. Is it all worth it just for a scholarship? Eden Hall was actually shot at a University, but none the less, still very convincing.

A terrific ending to a heartwarming and fun film!

D2: The Mighty Ducks

Cast: Emilio Estevez, Joshua Jackson, Shaun Weiss, Elden Hanson, Brandon Quinton Adams, Carsten Norgaard

Director: Sam Weisman

Release Date: 1994

Running Time: 1hr 46 minutes

Genre: Family/Sport

Rating: U

Format: DVD

Synopsis:

Coach Gordon Bombay is forced to stand back from the minor league hockey league after he suffers a serious knee injury. However, much to his surprise he is given the task of coaching Team USA Hockey for the Junior Goodwill Games in California.

The Ducks are back again, this time as Team USA, entering in the Junior Goodwill games in Los Angeles. However the hype of Hollywood starts to go to Gordon Bombay's head, making him very unpopular with his team when he is seen trying to chat up the the revivals tutor from Iceland. Will the Ducks become champions once more or will Iceland defeat them?

Emilio Estevez returns as coach Gordon Bombay delivering a very cocky and arrogant performance as he tries to recover from a serious knee injury. The team must embark on their first adventure to Los Angeles, introducing themselves to new members of their team including Dwayne, Dean, Julie, Russ, Luis and Ken Wu. An interesting bunch that fits in very well with their team. Joshua Jackson returns once again as Charlie Conway, now two years older, he delivers a very good performance, as Charlie he really starts to stand up to Coach Bombay.

The Icelandic team are very fierce and ferocious with nothing ahead of them but a winning streak. Friendship between the ducks is better then ever, however it takes them a while to get used to their newcomers, some of them having somewhat flamboyant personality's. One of which drives them insane until they are introduced to his knuckle-puck. If there's one thing that is really awesome about the storyline it's definitely the use of magnificent hockey tricks.

What makes the storyline so superb is watching the characters change and grow, learning new skills, falling in love, seeing them become true athletes. Very nicely shot with a simple enough production design that works well within the storyline and the characters. It is what it is. The perfect amount of humour, tension and excitement. One of those moments where you just want your favourite team to win, we all know that our favourite team is the "Ducks" right?

An excellent sequel to a magnificent franchise.

The Mighty Ducks: The Champions

Cast: Emilio Estevez, Lane Smith, Joshua Jackson, Shaun Weiss, Heidi Kling and Elden Hanson

Director: Stephen Herek

Release Date: 1992

Running Time: 1hr 40 minutes

Genre: Family/Sport

Rating: PG

Format: DVD

Synopsis:

An egotistic lawyer from Minnesota, is sentenced to community service coaching a rowdy youth hockey team.

Narcissistic lawyer and ex hockey player Gordon Bombay finds himself sentenced to community service after a DUI. His sentence? To coach a boisterous youth ice hockey team. The team however are missing one vital thing, the ability to actually play. Gordon Bombay must not only coach the team how to play hockey but teach responsibility, kindness and guidance too. Going back to his roots, he must teach them the real rule of endurance.

Starring Emilio Estevez as Coach Bombay and a bunch of child stars who are now so much older then myself it's rather mind-boggling. Joshua Jackson stars as Charlie Conway, a young lad who's very passionate about hockey and just as passionate about finding his mum a boyfriend. Estevez's and Jackson's chemistry on screen is magnificent. A real bond of respect. Of course Charlie isn't the only one of the team he's also joined by Fulton, Goldberg, Lewis, Les, Jesse, Peter, David, Guy, Connie, Adam and Tommy.

Estevez delivers a terrific performance, it's wonderful to see his personality change through-out the course of the film as he himself learns the art of responsibility, kindness and courage. The friendship that he has with the "Ducks" is not only entertaining but fantastically heartwarming. Disney was really in it's prime in the nineties with their tremendous family films. An educational, heartwarming and entertaining film with a storyline that most can relate to.

Shot in Minnesota, it really captures the theme of the film perfectly. The fact that a few of the child actors couldn't actually play ice hockey before they shot the film, it goes to show how impressive their performances actually are. The excitement and fun that they each are able to bring to their roles is excellent. Tremendously convincing with a wonderful score that coincides with the storyline and the characters brilliantly. Queen's "We are the Champions" is perfectly fitting for the film. Disney have once again created a family favourite that can be watched time and time again. Superb.

Inspector Gadget

Cast: Matthew Broderick, Rupert Everett, Joely Fisher, Michelle Trachtenberg and Andy Dick.

Director: David Kellogg

Release Date: 1999

Running Time: 1hr 18 minutes

Genre: Family

Rating: U

Format: DVD

Synopsis:

Security guard John Brown's dreams come true when he is selected to be transformed into the very first cybernetic police officer known as Inspector Gadget.

Security guard John Brown (Broderick) dreams of becoming a police officer, however he can't seem to convince them that he is worthy enough. One night whilst on patrol, checking on a robotic surgeon Brenda who is working on an a new invention, he finds himself in a spot of trouble with bad guy Claw (Everett) who steals the invention killing her father in the process. John Brown sets off to capture him however his car is blown up in the process. Due to his kindness Brenda decides to turn him into the great police officer to ever live, Inspector Gadget.

Based on the fantastic cartoon of the same name. The nineties was a fantastic decade for family films. In 1999, the world was introduced to a live action version of the beloved cartoon series "Inspector Gadget", starring the wonderful Matthew Broderick as John Brown/Inspector Gadget, Broderick's characterisation and performance is absolutely superb, he really manages to capture the original character in looks and in personality. The sparks soon start to fly when he finds himself falling in love with Brenda.

In every family film, there must be a bad guy. Rupert Everett is absolutely fabulous as bad guy Claw. A wealthy man who is out to steal her invention with the help of his hilarious side-kicks Sikes and Kramer. Speaking of inventions, Brenda not only designs Inspector Gadget, but his trusty gadget-mobile too. A modified convertible, that's capable of doing anything and everything. My favourite personally being the sweet dispenser, who doesn't want an unlimited amount of skittles?

The storyline is magnificent, director David Kellogg has done a tremendous job at wrapping all of the episodes into one film. For a live action film it's excellent. Superbly written with a fair amount of tongue-in-cheek humour. The film shouldn't be taken seriously on any level. It's absolutely ridiculous, but that is what makes it so wonderfully entertaining, people of all ages can relate to it, what's more amazing is that the original "Inspector Gadget" is still being shown today.

Brilliantly shot, it has that real family film vibe to it. Fun and entertaining, with fantastic cinematography and production design. Not to forget an excellent soundtrack that works excellently with the characters and the storyline. Director David Kellogg went to great lengths to make it as much like the original show as possible, right down to John's dog Brains and the original catchy "Inspector Gadget" theme.

A wonderful family film, Go Gadget Go!

Edge of Tomorrow: Live Die Repeat

Cast: Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, Jonas Armstrong and Brendan Gleeson.

Director: Doug Liman

Release Date: 2014

Running Time: 1hr 53 minutes

Genre: Science Fiction

Rating: 12

Format: Blu-Ray

Synopsis:

Cage finds himself in a war with aliens and reliving the same day over and over again, each day restarting everytime that he dies.

Based on the Japanese novel "All you need is kill" by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. Earth is at war with aliens. William Cage (Tom Cruise) who has never seen a day of combat, finds himself fighting in a suicide mission. Killed in seconds, Cage finds himself in a time-loop living out the same day over and over again, however for every day that he dies, he is able to encourage the troops to take a different route, alongside Special Forces officer Rita (Emily Blunt), for everyday that they both relive again, they find themselves getting closer and closer to winning the war against aliens.

Starring Tom Cruise as Private William Cage. A man who soon finds himself at the bottom of the food chain with everybody else going to far with the aliens. Picked on by Master Sergeant Farell (Paxton), for his previous role as Major. Cage must do everything within his power to convince Rita that he is reliving the same day over and over again and that he potentially knows a way to win the war. It's a little bit "Groundhog Day" meets "Independence Day" with some pretty awesome looking suits thrown in for good measure. Cruise delivers a very good performance with an unusual amount of humour. Watching him relive each day begins to get rather amusing. Timing it just right every single time, to make sure he survives, to the point where he must finally go looking for Special Forces officer Rita played magnificently by Emily Blunt. A fierce woman who a long time ago was just like Cage, although now she finds herself unable to relive each day.

The late Bill Paxton is terrific as Master Sergeant Farell, almost going back to his "Aliens" roots in terms of character personality. Not the biggest of roles, but fantastic none the less. Brendan Gleeson too shares a small role as General Brigham. The one man in control of Cage, who ends up sending him into the war zone. A good performance, although a little bit more characterization would have been nice. The storyline itself is a very interesting concept. Author Hiroshi Sakurazaka got the idea from playing video games and resetting it over and over until he found a winning strategy. Director Doug Liman has executed the story perfectly. A terrific balance of action, adventure and humour. Something that came as a pleasant surprise to myself. An alien movie without the use of cheesy looking green men.

Shot in and around London, it adds a different touch to the story which I'd imagine would of originally been shot in Japan? Wonderful cinematography with tremendous looking special effects. The time-loop scenes are also superbly shot. Incredible production design, fantastically thought out. A constant feeling of wanting to know what happens next. Do they win the war? A highly entertaining film, one that is sure to keep still keep you on the edge of your seat tomorrow!

Horror Film Tag

Favourite Gore Film?

I'm not really one for gory horror movies, however if made very well, they can be extremely enjoyable. I recently stumbled across "The Green Inferno" about a bunch of teenagers that head for the Amazon rainforest in the hope to save it, however they soon find themselves in trouble, surrounded by an unknown tribe who have never seen another human. This film disturbed me on so many levels, but the thing that stood out the most was the gore, a movie about cannibals. Director Eli Roth did a magnificent job in really creating an atmosphere on such a low budget film.

Favourite horror theme?

I love Supernatural horror films. I'm not entirely sure what makes them so fascinating, the unknown perhaps? I have however, found that they have to be made well, otherwise what you get is a very cheesy looking film about ghosts/demons/spirits, whatever you want to call them. Some of my favourites are The Conjuring, Insidious The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist.

Favourite psychological horror film?

Stephen King's "The Shining", if I'm honest, this was a film that I honestly didn't know whether I'd enjoy, but found to be absolutely amazing (the book is amazing too), it's very psychological, you have a hotel, a man and his family, in the middle of nowhere, snowed in, before long he begins to get cabin fever to the point he goes crazy. The story messes with your mind, is he imagining the ghosts in the hotel? Did he really hurt his son? It really makes you think.

Favourite film that scares you the most?

I wouldn't necessarily say that it's a favourite of mine, but it most certainly frightened me, to the point where I wouldn't watch it again the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" honestly terrified me. I'm pretty sure I watched after I'd turned eighteen, honestly one of the most disturbing films I have ever seen, however that is what makes it so wonderful, it's just a movie. Remarkable set design, make up and props are what make this film so real.

The last horror film you watched?

The Gallows. An awful horror film made in the style of POV. It's a shame because if been made like a normal movie, it could have had real potential.

All time favourite horror?

I think I've probably mentioned it before "Insidious" is 110% my all time favourite horror movie. I was pleasantly surprised, I honestly thought it was going to be a really cheesy supernatural horror, what I found however was a very unique and creative horror movie. I've seen it so many times, the more I watch the more impressed I am. Jon Wan is definitely my favourite director in the horror genre.

Worst horror movie?

Chernobyl Diaries. I've come to the conclusion that POV films do not work. Despite the set design looking very convincing (seeing as no one can physically go to Chernobyl) the storyline takes far too long to get going and sadly when it does is just absolutely appalling. If your into POV films, it's worth a watch, otherwise it's the worst horror movie I've ever seen.

Ghost

Cast: Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, Whoopi Goldberg and Tony Goldwyn

Director: Jerry Zucker

Release Date: 1990

Running Time: 2hrs 6 minutes

Genre: Drama/Romance

Rating: 12

Format: Amazon Prime UK

Synopsis:

When Sam is murdered his spirit stays behind to warn his girlfriend Molly that she's in danger, with the help of quirky psychic Oda Mae Brown.

Banker Sam Wheat (Swayze) and artist girlfriend Molly have just moved into their New York apartment. On the way back from the theatre one night, Sam is mugged and shot. His spirit, however stays behind, in order to tell his girlfriend Molly that she is in danger and that he knows who killed him. Sam, being a ghost of course must try and find a way to communicate with Molly, tracking down phony psychic Oda Mae Brown (Goldberg), who may just find out that she actually can talk to ghosts.

Starring the late Patrick Swayze, Swayze delivers a very charming, pure and innocent performance as banker Sam Wheat. Sam must learn to live (if want for a better word) with the fact that he is no longer living, people can't see him, people can't hear him, despite him being able to see everything, including his own funeral. For some the idea of being able to see that will be frightening, for others it may bring comfort. The thought of no longer opening a door, but walking straight through it.

Demi Moore plays the gorgeous Molly Jenson, Sam's artistic girlfriend, who makes pottery. Deeply grieving for Sam, refusing to believe that what Oda Mae Brown is telling her is true. Moore's performance is absolutely incredible. Demi's performance is not only heartbreaking, but very real and genuine. The dialogue between her and Oda Mae Brown is very genuine, how would you react if someone said they were communicating with your dead relative? Very real or not, it's bound to come as quite a shock.

Whoopi Goldberg is magnificent as psychic Oda Mae Brown, a rip off artist who finds she actually has a gift. A gift to communicate with heaven. Goldberg is absolutely hilarious in her communication with Sam, blunt and straight to the point. Before long, Sam isn't the only person she finds herself communicating with. Although the story focuses on very real things, death, grief, murder, there is also a fine balance of humour too.

Set in downtown New York, the setting sits very nicely with the storyline and the atmosphere that surrounds the film. Two evil men that kill a man for his mac code. The lighting too is dark, creating a brilliant atmosphere.  The way in which heaven and hell is interpreted is fantastic. Different, but very believable. A real distinction between right and wrong.

Ghost has a gorgeous score with hit song "Unchained Melody" by the Righteous Brothers as it's theme. It speaks volumes about the storyline and works beautifully alongside it. Breathtaking performances from Moore, Swayze and Goldberg. A tremendous story with a beautiful and touching ending. They don't make movies like this anymore!

No understanding for why she is following him around. After finding that Penny needs to have an illegal abortion, Baby offers to fill in for her.

Director Emile Ardolino's film debut. Ardolino went onto to director hit eighties films such as "Sister Act" and "Three men and a little lady", for someone who had only really previously directed TV movies, this is an exceptionally well directed film. Swayze delivers a magnificent performance as dance instructor Johnny Castle. A strict man who knows his subject. Jennifer Grey is fantastic as leading lady Frances "Baby" Houseman. A timid girl who soons learns confidence to dance alongside Johnny, believing that she is doing the right thing by helping Penny.

The storyline is very good focusing not only on dancing, but very real problems too. Abortion. Something that was frowned upon in the sixties and considered illegal. The film is very much a drama as much as it is a romance. Swayze and Grey both deliver spectacular dance sequences through out the film. Especially the famous "dance routine", alongside Billy Medley's "I've had the time of my life" an excellent scene that is most certain to stick with you.

Set in gorgeous North Carolina and Virginia. The setting sits superbly alongside the storyline and the characters. The lighting really adds to the theme of the film, really creating an atmosphere for the dancers. A tremendous soundtrack that works beautifully alongside the story and the dance sequences. A film that brings the true meaning to kindness, courage and entertainment. Excellent.

After learning of the valuables in his dad's attic, Mikey and his friends Chunk, Mouth, Data, Andy and Stef set off in search of One-Eyed Willy's famous lost treasure in the hope if found it will save their town. Directed by Richard Donner and written by Director Steven Spielberg. The adventure that unfolds around them is absolutely amazing.

The Goonies are made up of Mikey (Sean Astin) essentially the leader of the pack, always in constant need of his aspirator. Brand (Brolin) Mikey's older brother, a lad who's mad on toning his body and into getting the girls. Chunk (Cohen) or better known as Lawrence to some people, is the big lad in the group always landing himself in trouble due to his lies, Mouth (Feldman) his name of course stemming from the fact that he has a big mouth, most likely always landing himself in trouble, Data (Ke Quan) a young lad who's always making cool inventions and makes a tremendous "James Bond" style attrence at the beginning of the movie. And last but not least, Andy (Green) and Stef (Plimpton), one of whom Brand is desperately trying to make it with.

All of the child actors deliver magnificent performances, each with their own vibrant personality. On route to finding the treasure they find themselves at a closed down restaurant run by bad guys the Fratelli's, Mama Fratelli and her three sons Jake, Francis and Sloth (who is a close match for Superman in strength), the Goonies must get to the treasure before they do. Learning along the way, that they may not all be bad guys.

A tremendous story written by Director Steven Spielberg. The storyline is really captivating and fun. Really keeping you on the edge of your seat. The characters take you on an adventure of friendship, love and acceptance. Despite the storyline being very straightforward, there is plenty of suspense and tension to look forward to through out the film. A spectacularly stunning film, with gorgeous set design and cinematography. Keep an eye out for the pirate ship, it's by far the most exciting part of the film.

A score so compelling it works magnificently alongside the storyline, creating suspense and excitement. A fantastic coming of age film about true friendship.

The Hitman's Bodyguard

Cast: Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L.Jackson, Richard E. Grant and Gary Oldman.

Director: Patrick Hughes

Release Date: 2017

Running Time: 1hr 58 minutes

Genre: Action/Comedy

Rating: 15

Synopsis:

Top bodyguard Michael Bryce gets a new client, notorious hit-man Darius Kincaid, who must testify at the International Court of Justice in Amsterdam. They must both put their differences aside in order to make it to the trail on time.

Bodyguard Michael Bryce (Reynolds) finds himself at the bottom of the food chain after an unsuccessful delivery of a distinguished Japanese client was shot dead on his watch. Two years later he finds himself still working as a bodyguard, but frowned upon by his peers. Bryce of course will do anything to prove himself once more. It doesn't take him long before he's accepted an offer to protect notorious hit-man Darius Kincaid (Jackson), who must be transferred from Manchester to Amsterdam. The task seems simple? The chaos that unfolds around them is hilariously funny.

Ryan Reynolds very rarely fails to deliver a fantastic comedic performance. The chemistry on screen between Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson is absolutely magnificent. Why have these two stars, never been put in a movie together before? Their performances are remarkably funny. You'll never look at a hit-man movie the same way again. Samuel L. Jackson is wonderfully entertaining as Darius Kincaid. Wanted by almost everyone, he must attend court to act as a witness to President Vladislav Dukhovich (Oldman) to prove his wrong doing. Oldman's performance came as a little bit of a surprise, his character holds great significance to the storyline.

The storyline is superb, written excellently by screenwriter Tom O'Connor. The dialogue is so great, that at times it's hard to tell what was scripted and what was ad-libbed by Reynolds and Jackson. The interaction and comedic timing between characters is absolutely terrific. Reynolds and Jackson were cast magnificently. The story, although very simple keeps you interested from beginning to end, with fantastic and coherent action sequences.

Shot mainly in and around London and Amsterdam, director Patrick Hughes choice of shooting with a drone to capture the aerial shots are magnificently superb. Really capturing the beauty of both cities. The stunt work and special effects through out the film really put all other action movies to shame. The action sequences in the second chapter in particular are excellent. Brilliantly shot from several different angles, really allowing the audiences to feel involved and thrilled. An awesome soundtrack that just coincides with the storyline perfectly. A fantastic cross between "John Wick" and "The Bodyguard", one hit-man movie you don't wanna miss!

Cady begins by befriending Janis (one of the best people you will ever meet) and Damian (also one of the best people you will ever meet), however it doesn't take long for Cady to get wrapped up in the wrong crowd, with the plastics. The idea at first is for Cady to sabotage them, but before long Cady too becomes a plastic, pushing her true friends away. After conflicts with Regina's (leader of the plastics), ex boyfriend Aaron Samuels, Cady finds herself torn between the plastics and her true friends.

Lindsey Lohan delivers a surprisingly good performance as Cady Haron. The characters are so diverse through out the course of the film, if you can remember your school days, you can probably relate to one of them. Regina George is played magnificently by Rachel McAdams. Regina is the leader of the plastics, the alpha of the group, a spoilt rich girl who is used to getting her own way, a bully. There weren't any "Regina's" when I was at school, however I'm sure there are a fair few of people who did. A real mean girl. Of course Cady and Regina aren't the only two in the plastics, they are also joined by Gretchen Wieners (Chabert) and Karen Smith (Seyfried).

Gretchen Wieners is also a spoilt little rich girl, her father is the owner of toaster strudel. It's not unusual when you get a group of bullies to find that one is the ring leader (Regina George) whilst the other two are only really friends with them because of the fear they too will be bullied. Gretchen and Karen are the other two. Lacy Chabert delivers a superb performance. Amanda Seyfried is a spectacular actress, starring in the likes of "Mamma Mia" and "Letters to Juliet", the dumb blonde in the group, a girl who believes her breasts can tell when it's raining or can tell when it's going to rain, that is exactly how it sounds.

The storyline is superb, based on Rosalind Weisman's compelling book. What's so excellent about the story, is the fact that it draws upon real life experiences. Anyone and everyone can most likely relate to this film is some shape or form. We all want friends, we all want to fit in and be liked by everyone. Although some of it naturally is cliched, director Mark Waters has done a magnificent job in bringing all of the characters together, showing genuine conflict and showing the personalities of the individual characters. Brilliantly filmed, the lighting and the cinematography really add to the tone of the film. A simple production design that adds to the storyline beautifully.

A terrific score goes alongside the storyline too with big names like Orbital, Pink, Kelis and Blondie. It explains the storyline nicely as the film progresses, songs practically explain the scenes for you. Excellently filmed, great performances, the ultimate chick flick!

What have I been upto?

Hey guys, I just wanted to apologise for what probably feels like a lack of posts recently. I've been exhausted with work and yesterday was the two year anniversary of my dad's death. I've also been catching up on Game of Thrones and been trying to read as much as I can. I've just started Stephen King's IT, it's absolutely incredible. The attention to detail is fantastic. For those that haven't read it and are curious, I cannot highly recommend it enough. I'm curious about the film, however I'll probably wait for a Blu-Ray release.

I'm going to try and set up a personal blog too soon, so you guys can know a little bit more about me and my other interests. Thousands of you read my blog every month, which to be honest is just insane, so thank you! I'l try and push in as many cinema releases for you guys as I can!

Genre: Musical

Little do his family know of course, that Mr Pott's is hoping to turn it into a very special car, a car that can float, a car that can fly, Chitty!

Based on the novel of the same name by Ian Fleming. Flamboyant inventor Caracatacus Potts lives in a windmill with his father and his two children Jemima (Ripley) and Jeremy (Hall). Barely able to make ends meet, Mr Pott's does everything he can to make some cash. One night after a bit of fun at a fair, he manages to make just enough money to buy his children's favourite car an old Grand Prix car. However after three days, the car that drives out of Mr Pott's workshop is not the same that went in. After learning of the car's powers, nasty Barom Bomburst kidnaps Mr Pott's father believing he was behind the invention. Mr Pott's, his children and with the help of Truly Scrumptious, must do everything they can to get his father back. The adventure that unfolds is truly spectacular.

Starring Dick Van Dyke as inventor Caractacus Pott's, Dyke's performance is not only charming, but absolutely superb. The relationship that he shares with his two children is incredibly genuine and very heartwarming to watch. Mr Pott's soon finds himself fallen head over heels for Truly Scrumptious (Howes) a wealthy woman who's father own's a sweet factory. One that Mr Pott's desperately tries to pitch an idea too. Howe's performance is fantastic, absolutely beautiful in character with a stunning singing voice. It doesn't take long for Pott's children to fall for her too. Warming to her character, looking up to her like a mother.

Child stars (although not so little anymore) Adrian Hall and Heather Ripley deliver magnificent performances as Jeremy and Jemima Potts. Both characters are terrifically charming and innocent through out the course of the film. They to, delivers very good singing performances. It takes quite a skill to play a bad guy and to pull it off well. Robert Helpman is remarkable as the child catcher, a haunting performance, Baron Bomburst and Baroness Bomburst hate children and demand that all children are locked away into the dungeons below their castle. Don't worry folks, the bad guys never win!

A musical with so much talent, Benny Hill and Lionel Jeffries also deliver incredible performances as the toy maker and Grandpa Pott's. Grandpa Pott's is just as eccentric as his son, if not more, always taking himself to his shed to travel to Alaska or South Africa. The characters fit into the storyline beautifully, fantastically written by Ian Fleming and Roald Dahl. The storyline is exciting, it's fun, it's charming, it's full of music, there's twists and turns, is it real? Is it all a dream? Is it simply just a story Mr Pott's is telling his children whilst down at the beach?

Stunning cinematography, shot beautifully by director Ken Hughes and Director of Photography Christopher Challis. The gorgeous scenery of Bavaria, Germany where Bombursts castles resides (you can visit the castle even today) at Neuschwanstein Castle. Incredible production design, including of course the car Chitty. Seven different cars were built, a worn-out one, a restored one, one for the flying scenes, one for the water scenes and three partial models for other scenes. The car itself really is magnificent. At 2hrs and 24minutes, the film doesn't bore for a second. Fantastically imaginative, creative and wonderfully charming. Almost as if being sucked into a fantasy novel.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is suitable for all ages and is is not to be missed by real musical enthusiasts. A classic in it's own right. A masterpiece, a highly entertaining film. Perfect for those days where you just want to be curled up on the sofa.

Free Willy

Director: Simon Wincer

Release Date: 1993

Running Time: 1hr 52 minutes

Genre: Family

Rating: U

Format: Amazon Prime UK

Synopsis:

When street kid Jesse learns the owners of a sea aquarium want to kill their biggest attraction Willy, Jesse does everything in his power to free the whale back into the wild!

Street kid Jessie (Ritcher) is out defending for himself, when he learns his mother doesn't want him anymore. On the run from the Police, he finds himself in serious trouble after he was caught vandalising a local aquarium park. Determined to turn his life around, he makes friends with the whale at the park, whilst cleaning it up. Before long the two form a beautiful friendship, however after learning that the owners of the park want to kill Willy. Jesse must do everything in his power to free Willy back into the wild.

Starring child star Jason James Ritcher as Jesse. Ritcher delivers a magnificent performance. The friendship that he forms with killer whale Willy is beautiful and touching. The two of them have more in common, then they both realise. Willy was taken away from his family, stuck into a dolphin tank and forced to perform. Something that has now been brought to the attention of people all around the world, animals in captivity is highly frowned upon. Especially if it just for performing purposes, as apposed to helping to nurture the animal back into the wild. This film is a very strong reminder why animals should not be kept in captivity.

August Schellenberg stars as Jesse's supervisor, the friendship that Jesse forms with him through out the course of the film is excellent. Jesse learns the real art of communication, the bond between animals and humans. Randolf (Schellenberg) believes there is a spiritual bond between orca's and humans. It's a very interesting concept I must say! Michael Ironside is superb as bad guy Dial, owner of the aquarium. A nasty man who is only interested in the dollar coming into his pocket.

Although the storyline isn't up there with "Citizen Kane", it's still remarkably powerful and touching. The relationships between characters are very real and genuine. It may not be award winning cinematography, but doesn't mean to say that the way in which the film was shot was of poor quality. Set beautifully in Astoria Oregon, it really captures the scenery perfectly. The scenery adds to the tone of the film magnificently. The home of Orca's.

A tremendous score by composer Basil Poledouris, a score that really captures the beauty of the film. Heartwarming and emotional. The score speaks volumes about the film, telling the storyline through powerful music. The late Michael Jackson's "Will you be there?" works so well during the end credits.

A real story of friendship, one sure to tug on your heartstrings!

The Bodyguard

Cast: Kevin Costner, Whitney Houstan, Gary Kemp, Bill Cobbs, Ralph White and Gerry Bamman

Director: Mick Jackson

Release Date: 1992

Running Time: 2hrs 9 minutes

Genre: Action/Drama

Rating: 15

Format: Amazon Prime UK

Synopsis:

Former secret agent service agent Frank Farmer takes on the role of a bodyguard to protect a pop singer, who's life may just be in danger.

Not to be mistaken with the up and coming film "The Hitman's Bodyguard", however you may want to watch this first to understand the humour behind that film. In the last six months pop sensation Rachel Marron has had more then a few threats, threatening fan mail, a bomb in her dressing room, and someone breaking into her house, disliking the idea, she is is introduced to former secret agent service agent Frank Farmer (Costner) who is assigned to be her bodyguard. Unaware of what's been really going on, Farmer tries to convince her that her safety must come first.

Starring Whitney Houstan and Kevin Costner. Costner delivers a very charming, and serious performance as bodyguard Frank Farmer. His friendship with Rachel Marron starts off a bit rocky, being the diva she is, Rachel won't accept that anyone is really out to try and kill her. The late Whitney Houstan is absolutely stunning as pop sensation Rachel Marron. A feisty woman who is used to getting her own way. What's wonderful about the man that is after her, is that for the best part of the film, you only see his hands, his feet, watching him cut up a piece of paper, it adds a lot of suspense to the storyline and his character.

The storyline is magnificent, with an excellent balance of romance, drama and action. Not knowing who the man that is after her, adds as I mentioned before a lot of suspense and tension, allowing your mind to wonder, keep you guessing. You are introduced to the man very briefly, in the first chapter of the film, however nothing is explained about him, or why he is so desperate to get hold of Rachel. Despite not knowing who he is, there are more then a few surprises through out the storyline.

Beautifully shot in Beverly Hills, California and Florida. Naturally the setting adds to the tone of the film perfectly. The production design adds to Rachel Marron's personality and character fantastically. A stunning mansion, where her music videos are filmed, her home, a place that soon becomes Frank's home. The cinematography is terrific. The lighting is excellent and works really well in each scene, especially in those where Houstan is doing her finest, singing!

The soundtrack is fabulous, with a fantastic score by the woman herself Whitney Houstan, an emotional, heartbreaking and thrilling soundtrack that works beautifully with the storyline and the characters. A terrifically fantastic action movie, that will tug on your heart strings in all of the right places. If you weren't a fan of Whitney Houstan before viewing, you may just find yourlself becoming a fan after watching this beauty!
